At TCA’s general membership meeting of Oct. 17, 2019, there were two presentations, the first concerning the Seattle Parks Department’s recent purchase of a 0.9-acre property for restoration, on NE 125th St. in Lake City, and the second concerning the issue of side-sewer integrity.
The first talk, by Seattle Public Utilities, Seattle Parks, and the Mid Sound Fisheries Enhancement Group, detailed the September purchase of a private property with the North Fork of Thornton Creek running through it. Plans are being made to restore the floodplain connection, with SPU addressing work below the ordinary high water mark, and Parks taking care of the upland area, above the ordinary high water mark. Mid Sound is a funding partner, with a grant from King County, and will help manage the design and outreach concerning the channel work.
The second talk was an overview of the need to ensure integrity of side sewer connections from private property to the City sewer mains. Private property owners are responsible for their own side sewer maintenance. Breaches of sewers may result in sewage reaching the ground surface, and/or contamination of groundwater and surface water by E. coli bacteria. They may also cause sinkholes and collapses that could also affect public property.
Copies of the visual presentations are attached here.
We will plan our next general membership meeting for approximately January 2020. Stay tuned!
